Things I Learned From the Radio Last Month (June 2013)

In which The Author carries out his usual audit of unexpected trivia

  • In the Netherlands, twin sisters Louise and Martine Fokkens have recently retired from prostitution – at the age of 71. Between them, they estimate they have slept with over 355,000 clients. (Pick of the Week, Radio 4, June 16.)
  • Geneticists have discovered that populations of snails in the west of Ireland share characteristics with snails in the Pyrenees – but not those living in the area in between. (Material World, Radio 4, June 20.)
  • Contrary to all my expectations, Radio 4 has actually managed to commission the least funny ‘comedy’ show ever – so far, anyway. (My First Planet, Radio 4, June 27.)
